Database Description

Structural genomics aims to provide an experimental structure or good computational model for every tractable protein in completely sequenced genomes. Several research groups and centers are focused on providing high-throughput structure predictions and three-dimensional characterizations. The Presage database is a collaborative resource for structural genomics. It provides a central repository for distributing information about experimental work in progress, in order to avoid duplicate efforts between different groups and to keep the community aware of the centers’ progress. In addition, the availability of structural prediction information provided by several groups allows biologists to develop structural interpretations for their proteins of interest. The database is intended to enhance communications among structural genomics researchers and aid dissemination of their results.

Recent Developments

Several new search criteria for protein sequences can be expressed, such as having annotations in certain date ranges and having/not having structures in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Also, participating structural genomics centers have agreed on a common data format and method for disseminating information about the protein targets on which they are working experimentally, and this information is collected and integrated into Presage as experimental annotations.
